A-bbC-D-E- Opal.......... A-B-C-ddE- Lynx.......... AbbC-ddE- ~*~ a true lynx is a chocolate agouti A-bb, but most breeders have what is a smutty cream A-B-C-ddee and is labeled incorrectly as a lynx. |
| POINTED WHITE GROUP Pointed White-black.......... aaB-ch-D-E Pointed White-blue.......... aaB-ch-ddE- Pointed White-chocolate.......... aabbch-D-E- Pointed White-lilac.......... aabbch-ddE- |

A-bbc(chd)-ddee **also known as Frosty in Holland Lops; can carry c(chl) but it is the c(chd) that gives the proper coloring Sable.......... aaB-c(chl)-D-E- Sable Point.......... aaB-c(chl)-D-ee Seal.......... aaB-c(chl)c(chl)D-E- Smoke Pearl.......... aaB-c(chl)-ddE- Tortoise-black.......... aaB-C-D-ee Tortoise-blue.......... aaB-C-ddee Tortoise-chocolate.......... aabbC-D-ee Tortoise-lilac.......... aabbC-ddee |
| WIDE BAND GROUP Fawn.......... A-B-C-D-ee Orange.......... A-B-C-D-ee Red.......... A-B-C-D-ee **The above are genetically the same, plus rufus modifiers that add to the fur intensity and thus deepens the color of each. Blow into the fur and notice how much color actually extends down the hair shaft, all the way to the skin (base color). The fawn will show less coloring than the orange, the orange less than the red. A true fawn would be of a dilute color with blue grey eyes in other breeds, in Lops we identify these as cream. These colors can also be chocolate based "bb" instead of black "B-", which then will give them a more "clean" appearance. Cream.......... A-B-C-ddee |

| The Color Formerly Known As All of the colors listed on this page are the current recognized colors worded properly. In years past, colors have been eliminated and colors have been combined or renamed. These renamed colors should no longer be used when labeling colors of rabbits for their pedigrees. The colors are listed below are for referance and should be advised to all to use the correct term as seen in the Standard of Perfection. WAS KNOWN AS NOW KNOWN AS Blue Cream/Beige Blue Tort Isabella (Cream) Blue Tort Blue Fawn Blue Tort Lilac Cream Lilac Tort Siamese Smoke Pearl Smoke Pearl Dark Sable Seal Siamese Sable Cream (self) Lilac Point Squirrel* Blue Chinchilla* Sandy Chestnut Agouti Madagascar/Tort Black Tortoise/Tort Seal Point Sable Point Frosty/Frosted** Frosted Pearl** |
| *Note that in the Lop Color Guide, Squirrel was replaced with term Blue Chinchilla. However, Holland Lops have a seperate color guide and do use the term squirrel. **Note that in the Lop Color Guide, it states the color Frosted Pearl, but again, in Holland Lops they call this color Frosty |

| Each rabbit carries two genes on what is called the "allele". The rabbit receives only one gene from EACH parent for each allele. These two genes make up the allele for each "series". The series are listed in the above Genetic Code box, for example, the "A" series contains "A" for agouti, "at" for tan & "a" for self. Sometimes we know right up front about what genetics the rabbit has by physically looking at it, this is called it's "phenotype" and then the other "unknown" gene is represented by a blank {hyphen "-"}. We may also already know by the parents what genes are given to a rabbit for it's recessives. For example, the rabbit that is a self has the "aa", and can only pass on that "a" gene to all it's offspring, every time. For the rabbit that we can "physically" see as being an Agouti pattern animal "A", that has one self parent, will then have the genotype of "Aa". And so on, for the rest of the gene series. | Proper Genetic Steels For the correct ticking of steel, it should be of an Agouti breeding and actually labeled as such. This will show heavy ticking all over the rabbit. When the Self (aa Es-) color produces steel, the ticking is barely seen, if not completely gone. Because of this, this type of steel can appear to just be a normal self colored rabbit, but genetically is a self steel. Confusion can come from the vague description listed in the Standard of Perfection color guide. Since both steels of the agouti and self genes are recognized and are grouped together in the Standard, this guide will hopefully define each color more clearly. Recognized tipping or ticking, is either gold or silver. In parenthesis is the color of tipping that that color should have. |
**YES, a Ruby Eyed White(REW) CAN BE BROKEN!! You only know this by actually breeding them to a solid. You can't visually see them being broken because it's hard to see where the lines of the white meet with the color of white! |
