Lotsa Lops
A "rabbit" named Jewel's Kitty
The story of Jewel's Kitty starts with a stray feral cat, which had her 4 kittens in our garage in 2002.
By the end of the summer, Mama Cat left our home.  As well did 3 of her kittens.  But, one runt remained behind.
This feral kitten wouldn't have anything to do with human contact.  But did continue to live in our garage and from this, formed an unusual bond.
<----kitten to later be named Jewel's Kitty
The feral kitten quickly was adopted by Jewel, a Mini Lop mix that had run of the yard.  It was an unusual sight to see, but sure enough that kitten followed Jewel everywhere.  They would mutually groom each other, and snuggle together as well.
Late winter of 2003, Jewel sadly passed on.  Leaving behind a kitten that seemed very lost with it's foster mommy being gone.
We felt saddened for the thin little kitten and tried to befriend him with a daily offering of food.  The kitten slowly grew to know me as friend, not foe.  Yet still had no interest in being handled.
The little kitten still seemed saddened with the loss of Jewel, so I thought it was time to turn another rabbit loose for retirement to the yard.  But, how would the kitten react to a new, different rabbit?  This time, a larger breed and different sex.
Being winter still, a domestic rabbit surely couldn't run the yard when not adapted to it previously.  An area in the garage was then set up where Geoffrey the English Lop would be introduced to running free, and the little kitten.
The kitten took to Geoffrey like a new adoptive father. Geoffrey at first did not realize that this new friend was not a rabbit.  The kitty however, quickly saw what fun it was to pounce on Geoffrey's long ears as they dragged when he hopped.
As spring arrived, Geoffrey was then free to run the yard.  He and the kitten didn't seem to be as close of buds anymore.  Which was perfect timing to become more friendly myself with the kitten.
Finally and slowly, I was able to pet the kitten.  Soon, we started forming a bond.  I offered food and in return was allowed to pet or scratch the kitten. Now by this time, a name was needed.
Still not being able to get close enough to tell if the kitty was a boy or girl, the name had to be uni-sex.  But little did I know, that this little kitty was already named!!
Since the kitty was always with Jewel, and was always referred to as Jewel's kitty, then so be it!!
His name was to officially be Jewel's Kitty.
Now, Jewel's Kitty can't seem to get enough attention from me.  Constantly underfoot, always following me during chore time.  Even thinking he is a rabbit by climbing into the rabbit cages while I'm feeding!!
After the passing of Geoffrey, Jewel's Kitty was  still one of the rabbits.  Jetta, a blue English Lop was then turned loose to form a friendship with Kitty.
November 21, 2003.  A hit and run car took the life of Jewel's Kitty.  Kitty is going to be deeply and strongly missed by not the humans, but by many rabbits as well.
On March 6, 2004, Jetta died from complications due to a dog attack.
She is buried next to Kitty.
