| The Mini Rex was accepted for its third showing at the 1988 convention in Madison, Wisconsin. The name itself tells you of it's size~mini~and fur~like Rex. Only 6 varieties of colors were first accepted for show, however the following year, it nearly doubled by jumping to eleven possible varieties for breeding and show. This is the only "non Lop" breed in the Lotsa Lops rabbitry. Chosen to work toward the Velveteen Lop breed, a few Mini Rex were added. Now, replaced completely by the Velveteen Lops. |
| MY THOUGHTS Mini Rex can be a very affectionate breed, but seem to not demand attention. They enjoy regular one on one attention the best. Special attention needs to be paid to the toenails of the Mini Rex. Their nails are very pin sharp, and grow very quickly. Frequent trimmings are a must and care taken when handling to prevent scratches to yourself. Their footpads are thin and not heavily furred. Wire floor cages will cause sores or abcesses to their feet. Solid floors, or wire floors with foot rests are a must. Most Mini Rex need to be kept on a strict diet, for they always appear to be hungry and will eat themselves into obesity! |
