| In the 16th century, European tapestries displayed large, gray rabbits with ears that lopped. It was in the mid-1800s that the English Lop came into the public eye, making it the oldest known breed of domestic rabbit to man. And at one time, the most successful throughout Europe. The English Lop is very placid and receptive to human handling. Which must be what makes these guys so irresistable!! English Lop ear growth will be completed at about 16 weeks (4 months) of age. Further growth of 1/2" may be attained through skull development. Measurement is to be taken from tip to tip of the ears with a yardstick resting on the neck behind the base of the ears. Minimum of 21" with balanced width is required for show, even starting at junior age!! |

| MY THOUGHTS English Lops are an extremely outgoing and tolerable breed. Their larger size and big ears seem to turn away many people from owning one. But for those that have the glorious pleasure of owning this big eared King of the Fancy, know what a fabulous and worthwhile experience it is to be loved by an English Lop. Unconditional love and affection are what you can expect with every English Lop purchase. Regular inspection of their ears: internal and external, are something that is required for care. With their deep ear canals, they are more prone to ear wax build up which can lead to ear infections. Extra special attention needs to be given to keeping the toenails trimmed so that they do not rip/tear their ears when stepping on them. |
